Semper Caliga
(Unmerciful
Death Productions)
Sirannon
is an all female Turkish Black Metal
band formed in 2005, and “Semper Caliga”
is the first full length of this heretic
trio… Sirannon plays raw and traditional
sounding Black Metal, with great
emphasis in the blurry atmospheres
created by the sharpened and cyclic
riffing, which combined with a really
grim and infernal vocal work results in
13 tracks of obscure musical
desecration. The album moves between mid
and fast tempos, always leaded by the
electrifying guitar work, while the
drumming sounds a little low in the mix
increasing the somewhat atmospheric
sound of this opus. “Semper Caliga” has
the distinctive aura of a traditional
Black Metal album, but also includes
certain doses of Black n’Roll in its
structures resulting in a violent, quite
catchy and obscure album… These
thrashing and old school sounding
composition are complemented by some
symphonic, gothic flavored instrumental
interludes; “Annon Morin”, “Black Annis”
and “In Etemenanki” are the responsibles
for giving the listener a brake along
this tortuous and obscure journey, these
are a nice, but not completely necessary
detail, that even when does not worsen
this opus, does not improves it either…
The album production is quite dirty and
intentionally slightly blurry, but
balanced and powerful, which is
specially reflected at the vocals and
guitar work, the two leading elements of
this record… Originality is not
precisely what you’ll find here;
Sirannon bases its proposal in the well
proved Black Metal formula, discarding
all unnecessary arrangement in order to
focus on getting a visceral, filthy and
infernal traditional Black Metal sound…
and that’s precisely what all this
record is all about, pure unadulterated,
crude and obscure Black Metal, so if
you’re looking for a killer piece of
True Black Metal you should take a
listen to “Semper Caliga”, I guarantee
you won’t be disappointed… (AP) |
