Impressions Of The Night (Dunkelheit Produktionen)

 “Impressions Of The Night” is the first demo of this German Black Metal act formed in 2001 by Chaos (vocals, guitars) and Baal (drums). After almost ten years of apparent inactivity the band delivers at this work, two tracks clocked at 34 minutes, of slow paced, nature inspired Black Metal completely based over hypnotic and repetitive structures, where the cyclic riffing is complemented by a simple and cadent drum work and some discrete but effective atmospheric keyboards. The vocals of Chaos are desperate and hellish, even when this demo is mainly instrumental; the wise addition of tortured vocals contributes with the whole work’s tension and variety. “Impressions Of The Night” is full of melancholic, entrancing and spellbinding melodies, which potentiated by long duration of each track, propitiates the perfect mood for an introspective and solitary journey. A remarkable detail about this record are the title of the tracks; “Journey Into The Unknown and Eerie Dark Forest” and “Hidden, Lost and Forgotten Between The Mysterious Fog Of Time”, these seems to be carefully chosen in order to complement the message of these compositions, both titles are definitely an accurate reflection of the obscure and introspective proposal Nacht deliver here… The production of this demo is quite remarkable as well, despite of the live sounding drums and the overall dirty sound, the whole music sounds well balanced and just as powerful as the concept requires. “Impressions Of The Night” is a solid demo, a nice sample of the obscure proposal of this German band that will easily catch the attention of those into the Depressive, Atmospheric Burzum-esque Black Metal sound, if you belong to this crowd I strongly recommend you to check this work out…  By the way, Nacht has already released an EP entitled “The Cold Eerie Moon” (also under Dunkelheit Produktionen) so be aware… (AP)
