KURGAALL

Summi Verbi Lucifer (Lo-Fi Creatures)

“Summi Verbi Lucifer” is the latest album of this Italian Satanic Black Metal band formed by Lord Astaroth (vocals), Nippland (guitars), Nazgul (bass) and Murgur (drums). This blasphemous act delivers at this album eleven tracks of Orthodox Black Metal in the most sacrilegious vein of bands such Marduk and Gorgoroth, you won’t find here anything but destruction and profanity in shape of strident compositions that seems to be inspired by hell itself. The fierce guitar of Nippland deliver here destruction and chaos with its sharpened mid toned riffs, which playing cyclic and hypnotic “melodies” creates infernal atmospheres of nightmarish brutality. The devastating drum plays fast tempos full of blast beats and some interesting structures, setting a solid frame for the whole musicianship. The vocals of Lord Astaroth are mostly possessed shrieks, but also include some bestial grunts and even some clean voices at moments, contributing with tons of brutality and a true Black Metal feeling… Some more actual influences of bands such Watain and Ondskapt can also be found at this record specially reflected at the quite technical performance and the solid sounding production. The satanic orthodox posture of the band is clearly represented at the album’s artwork; “Summi Verbi Lucifer” comes in a nice looking digipack that includes some interesting medieval demonic representations along with a booklet with all the lyrics, which are, of course, very oculists and obscure, just have to check the track’s titles to know what this album is all about… “Summi Verbi Lucifer” is definitely not an original album, but the band seems to never have this intention, Kurgaall is not here to break the boundaries of Black Metal but to spread obscurity and pestilence in its most strident form… (AP)
