From The Netherlands this young band comes, paying homage to true Doom Metal, playing dirty, obscure and heavy as fuck… Their second work, “From Cosmos To Chaos” is a narcotic trip and, at the same time, a kick in the face…We haven’t forgot about Doom Metal, so we contact the band and here’re the results of some question Wes Lee (guitars and backing vocals) kindly accepted to answer.

BB: First I would like to thank you for giving us this interview and congratulations for your album “From Cosmos To Chaos”… For those who haven’t heard about Heavy Lord yet, can you give us a short biography?

Hi, my name is Wes Lee, I play guitar and sing.  Heavy Lord is a band from HELLevoetsluis, Netherlands, and we play fucking loud!!!!!

BB: Can you tell us about your first work “Holy Grail”? What was, for you, the main difference between this demo and “From Cosmos To Chaos”?

I don’t see The Holy grail as a demo.. The difference between the 2 albums was the Holy Grail was recorded in an analogue studio in the middle of Gent, Belgium, with a lot of  fun, partying, weed smoking and drinking booze.

“From Cosmos To Chaos” was recorded in one weekend in the Netherlands and we also did a gig after the first day of the recording session. That was a lot of hard work in a few days.

BB: I understand you still got copies of “Holy Grail”…am I right? Is this work available in Cd format or Cd-r?

You can still order the “Holy Grail”  for 5 euro’s. Order at: parasite@planet.nl

BB: Can you tell us about the concept behind the name “From Cosmos To Chaos”? …Why you choose this name?

It is not a concept just the title of the album. If you listen to the cd you will understand why we called the cd “From Cosmos to Chaos”.

BB: How was the composition process of “From Cosmos To Chaos”?

Playing riffs. Nothing more.

BB: Your lyrics are very varied; I specially liked the lyrics from “Elephaunt”, “Scorpion Sting” and “The Ego Has Landed”…Can you tell us about the ideas behind these songs?

“Scorpion Sting” is about heroine. “The Ego Has Landed” is how every person sees him or herself and is a tribute to Robbie Williams. And Elephaunt is about a patient who falls in love with a shrink. The shrink is an Elephaunt which supposed to bring good luck or something, but instead he fuck’s the patient right up.

BB: Are you satisfied with the final results of “From Cosmos To Chaos”?

Maybe….

BB: Your main musical influences seem to be very clear, but, especially at “While Empire Burns” I listen to some slight influences of Mike Patton and especially of his band Tomahawk… Has Mike Patton, or some of his projects, influenced in some way or another the sound of Heavy Lord?

Mike Patton ?? Who the fuck is that. You don’t mean Mat Pike or Pat Mikkon. Never heard of Tomahawk also.  Steve is a Mike Patton fan, and if you listen to the song “The world is yours” of Faith No More, you’ll hear that he was inspired vocal wise.

BB: What is Doom Metal to you? Would you call your music exclusively Doom Metal?

I am not really into doom metal like “My dying bride” or something like that.

The connection Heavy Lord and DOOM is paying tribute to Black Sabbath,  St Vitus, Eyehategod, Sleep Goatsnake  and more bands who influence us that was the reason for us to start this band.  We want to play fucking louder as Mötorhead but much slower hahahahh

BB: Why do you think Doom Metal isn’t as “massive” (within the parameters of underground music) as other styles such Black or Death Metal?

Because its not as many in the magazine and on tv like black or death metal. And its to slow for many people. Many people want to hear fast music. And people in doom don’t do bullshit things like burning churges or kill a priest or shit like that. Doom is the only music style what’s really about the music and not about gimmicks.

BB: Many Doom Metal bands have left completely behind all kind of structures and traces of melody… creating the so called Drone Doom. What’s your opinion about this style? Could be Drone Doom a natural evolution of traditional Doom Metal?

I don’t know, one of the only bands of drone I like is SUNN0))).

On every record they surprise me with what the are doing with there sound. I don’t know other drone doom bands. When I was younger I really liked the band “Earth”.

BB: From mid nineties until today, the term “Doom Metal” has been incredibly prostituted by an enormous number of Gothic bands… What do you think about this tendency? Do you think this kind of crap could affect the whole Doom Metal scene… or would just die without glory?

I don’t care about what other bands are doing or how they call them self. I hate gay gothic bands it fucking sucks. I also hate keyboards and samples in a doom band, fuck that shit. I am more into bands like Spirit Caravan, High on Fire and old Black Sabbath.

BB: What about the Doom Metal scene in The Netherlands? Is there any band you can recommend to us? There are not many doom metal bands in Netherlands check out

We are one of the hardest working DOOM bands in the Netherlands. Another Dutch doom band is Tekhton, who are working on their record for 2 years or something. Other cool bands are Mary Bell, Merca Officium Triste and Toner Low.

BB: I read you played with Reverend Bizarre… can you tell us about this experience?

I don’t remember anything anymore sorry. It was on Dutch DOOM day and I was fucked up that evening

BB: How is the public response to your live performances?

Very good  we give 101% every single gig . Most of the time the people like our stuff. It’s a very new genre for people over here so that’s funny

BB: What are your future plans? When can we expect a new release?

Where going to record the new record January. In the Void studio in Eindhoven so expect it coming out June or July.

BB: Thanks again for your time and answers… is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?

Hope to see you on the road!!
