Rites Of Black Putrefaction (The Art
Records)
“Rites
Of Black Putrefaction” is the latest
album of this ancient Mexican Black
Metal band formed in 1993 under the
moniker of Leteo, name that was changed
in 1994, when the band released their
first demo “In The Shadows”. The band
has a very extense discography,
featuring five full length albums
(including this last one), a live album
and several demos and compilations…
“Rites of Black Putrefaction” is an
album that reflects the band’s extense
trajectory and blasphemous experience in
13 tracks of perverted and primitive
Black Metal. Saturated and chaotic riffs
fill this album from the beginning to
the end, creating a dissonant and noisy
aura that surrounds this album entirely,
these electrifyingly infernal
atmospheres are the main responsible for
the highly hypnotic feeling of this
album, which even when is a quite varied
opus, can’t escape from these obscure
mass of unstoppable and spellbinding
destruction. The infernal voice of
Darvula fits perfectly with the whole
primitive, harsh and blasphemous
concept, his hellish vocalizations range
from thrashing dirty tones (ala Tom
Araya), blackish shrieks to deathly deep
growls, enormously contributing with the
whole album’s variety and continuity…
The album’s structures are coherent,
fluid and uncommonly varied, featuring
several 80’s Thrash influences, along
with the Black Metal influence of bands
such Venom, Sarcofago and Von, all these
complemented by an amorphous and obscure
as hell Black Ambient/Noise feeling. The
album production is intentionally crude
and analog sounding, there’s no way a
more polished production could fit in
such harsh and straightly primitive
release… the same goes to the whole
album artwork, which is noticeably based
in the early 90’s underground Thrash and
Black Metal aesthetics, once more
fitting within the album’s concept and
sound… “Rites Of Black Putrefaction” is
a killer album, sounding far from
today’s innumerable Black Metal
sub-genres, Funereal Moon has created a
timeless piece of distilled Black Metal
art. Musically, conceptually and
lyrically the band has maintained
immaculate at this record the severe
principles of Black Metal… Highly
recommended! (AP) |
