Dreams Make Monsters (BadMoodMan Music)

I’ve got very few information about this Dutch Stoner trio, according with the label’s page, “Dreams Make Monsters” is the band’s third and latest effort, being the firsts two self-released works… The music this band plays can be unmistakable labelled as Stoner Rock, the influences of bands such Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age and Corrosion Of Conformity are clearly hearable along this album, in fact, at first listening this album sounded to me like a mix between Monster Magnet’s “Powertrip” and QOTSA’s “Rated R”, reaching some moments of suspicious similarity… The potent, sometime raspy and rocking vocals, harmonized by the melodic and smoking guitar riffs are the responsible for the whole desertic feeling, sometimes reaching an unexpected melodicism reminding me to Soundgarden’s metallic beginnings; in fact I would dare to say this album is plenty of Grunge references… (There’s even a particular riff at “You Lose Alone” that seems to be taken from Nirvana’s song “Drain You”…). As you can notice this isn’t precisely an original work, but I would be a big fat liar if I told you that I do not enjoy this record, it brought to my mind some of the best moments of 90’s Rock… Since this isn’t Metal, this album isn’t for anyone, not for anyone who reads these pages at least, but if you like the desertic sound of bands such Corrosion Of Conformity, Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age and Kyuss, or the heaviest moments of Grunge Music… you will easily get caught by the catchy and rocking sound of Floodstain.
