A Covenant Infernal (Self Released)
“A
Covenant Infernal” is the second, and
unfortunately, the last work of this
promising Swedish Black Metal band with
its original line-up; on June 1st
2010, Jens, the co-founder and guitar
player of Devilry, past away at his 27
years old, then after a short brake, the
members of Devilry decided to continue
with the band, as a tribute to this
fallen warrior… After hearing the band’s
excellent first demo “Heading For
Salvation”, I was quite anxious to hear
this new work, and let me tell you my
expectations wasn’t in vain… “A Covenant
Infernal” follows the destructive path
of its predecessor with seven tracks of
savage, cruel, fast and brutal Black
Metal; this works sounds like the
natural continuation of the band’s
previous offering with sharpened guitar
driven electrifying atmospheres, ultra
fast blasting drums and infernal
vocalizations that seems to be taken
from hell itself… The band seems to have
embraced at this demo an even straighter
and brutal sound, always influenced by
Swedish Black Metal icons such Marduk
and Dark Funeral, but this time
delivering a quite more original and
personal proposal… As with “Heading For
Salvations”, the production of this demo
is remarkable; completely strong, brutal
and pretty clear, which adds a slight
modern touch to the band’s orthodox
sound… Devilry has reached with only two
demos, an obscure, coherent and brutal
sound that many bands can’t reach in a
lifetime, “A Covenant Infernal” is a
rock solid release that will easily
catch the attention of the most purist
devotees to Black Metal… By the way,
this demo CDr was re-released in tape
version by the Ukrainian label
Depressive Illusions Records, so make
yourself a favour and try to get this
work… there’s no way you can be
disappointed… (AP)
