BLACK WITCHERY

Upheaval Of Satanic Might  (Red Stream)

This time this US band shows what are they made of…pure War/Black Metal!! But this time we can appreciate a more “mature” approach, the music basically is the same we have used to, but with better production (better doesn’t mean good), the song seems to be a little (just a little) more complex and differentiable between each other. The guitar work is excellent, simple but highly effective with thrashing, repetitive riffs in constant rise and descent, this time doesn’t muddy the rest of the instrument’s sound; in fact those are pretty legible, the drumming is simple but incredibly fast! Pure blast beats!! The “melodies” are full of hatred, violence, down tuned vibrations. The album art is completely satanic and explicit, Satan’s face surrounded by his hordes, all in b/w but the bloody red logo. What it sounds like? Well it sounds like Black Witchery, we can say they have reached his own sound, of course you can find some hints of Blasphemy, Von, War or some other classic band of this style (the last song reminds me inevitably Deathwith, especially in the vocal work) but you can easily recognize their sound. Actually I think Black Witchery is one of the best exponents of this style. (AP)
