(Suffering
Jesus Productions)
Don’t
get confused by the awful cover art… the
cartoonish monk on the front cover has
nothing to do with the musical proposal
of this Canadian one man Black Metal
band, in fact, the music of Beyond The
Ninth Wave could be easily classified as
Grim Suicidal Black Metal, in the finest
vein of Burzum. The album starts with
some clean guitars and wind sounds, all
this with a really depressive mood,
after this, quite short, intro, all the
obscure magnificence appears, adorned
(and driven) by high tuned, strident
guitars which create the electric,
suffocating and hellish atmospheres
that, slowly becomes the trademark of
this work. The voices are absolutely
remarkable; high pitched blackish
screams, which immediately reminds me
the Count Grishnak vocal work… but even
more raw and ripping, the desperation
and suffering transmitted by the voice
of Morder creates the perfect aura for
the whole album. The music flows at
varied velocities, being the slow
passages the most notable, there’re, of
course, some blasting passages, but
Beyond The Ninth Wave seems to focus its
sound in the tormented and suffocating
atmospheres. As you probably expect from
a one-man-Burzum-inspired Black Metal
band, this is extremely misanthropic and
suicidal music; titles like “Suicidal
Winter” and “Artic Holocaust” are the
perfect example of the lyrical approach…
and songs like “Trostlosigkeit” are the
reaffirmation of its firm Anti-Life
posture, with melodies that will freeze
your blood and will make you thinks
about your worthless existences…
Although this isn’t a completely
original work, Beyond The Ninth Wave
delivers a highly interesting Black
Metal, worthy of all our attention… If
you hate all form of life, including
yours… this work will draw a big smile
in your miserable face (AP) |
