Reanimations
(Xtreem Music)
First of all, I have to say I’ve never
been a follower of this band, so I can’t
make an opinion in
comparison
with the original versions of the cover
versions on this CD, I’ll just make an
opinion as a death metal listener...
This is a hard to
clasify
CD, it contains new material from the
band, covers and also 9 TRACKS! of bands
making versions of Avulsed
songs
(they
make a contest on their website and this
is the result).
The first song “River Runs Red” it’s a
killer song! not so brutal and fast but
with riffs and choruses catchy as hell,
and a
contundent
sound, the Dave Rotten’s vocals reminds
me Chris Burnes on Cannibal Corpse’s
“The Bleeding”, but less deeper, a song
to bang your head and sing along!
haha!.
The two following songs are brutal and
fast, Avulsed plays with good technique
without being “technical death metal”,
the song have feeling , good brutal
riffs and vocals. “Foetal Consolation”
is a new song in the classic fast U.S.A.
death metal way, and “Unconcious
Pleasure” is a remake of an old song
(re-dissected edition).
Then we have 3 covers: “Piranha”
(Exodus) , an excellent version in my
opinion, played in their own brutal
style, same as the other covers
(that’s
an important thing, the covers are not
“clones” of the originals), then a WASP
version, that really on the beginning
it’s hard to recognize it, some parts
and voices are so brutal that it’s hard
to say ”wow! this is “I wanna
be somebody” , yeah!”, the choruses are
pretty distorted and brutal, also the
riffs .Then we have a Gorefest
version...I’m not a follower of that
band so... I think it’s not a very
exciting song, basic riffs and nothing
to highlight really...(the song is
“Mental Misery”, by the way).
That’s the material from Avulsed...then
9 tracks of covers, the first played by
the band
Terroristars
(“Powdered Flesh”) has vocals in the
vein of Straping Young Lad and some
metalcore style voices, it’s kind of
bizarre. Other remarkable versions are
the “Stabwound Orgasm” cover, played by
Carnavage, the roughest version, totally
necrotic sound and deep growls, this
same song is “reanimated” by Zardonic,
in an electronic remix, that it’s one of
the most interesting versions of the CD
in my opinion
(yeah...,
I’m open minded, so fucking what?
haha),
dark synthesizer atmospheres and beats
not close to the “dancing stuff”, very
well done job. Another great and
surprising version is the cover of
“Sweet Lobotomy”, played by
Kaothic,
the vocals here are very close to
heavy/epic doom metal in the vein of
Solitude Aeturnus,
majestic version!.
The artwork of the CD it’s something I
loved it, it’s a tribute to “The
Reanimator”
movie
(based
on Lovecraft’s
story “Herbert west, reanimator”,
the pentagram on the CD maked
by syringes with the green reanimation
substance it’s cooool!.
The CD includes a video
maked
by french fans , only live footage,
nothing twisted and gore
(sorry
guys...).
An entertaining CD for the death metal
public in general, and a collection item
for Avulsed die-hard fans. (A.R.) |
