Dementia Praecox (Dusktone)
Suicidal
Black Metal in most tragic expression is
what this Turkish duo formed in 2009
delivers at this debut EP entitled
“Dementia Praecox”. Acrosome plays an
intense and atmospheric form of
Depressive Black Metal with great
emphasis in subtle atmospheres and
obscure melodicism where disturbing
interludes complement the intense and
blurry riffing that sets the overall
dreadful aura of this work… there’re
here a reasonable amount of Doom Metal
influences as well, which gets reflected
at the cadent tempos, some crawling
guitars and agonizing drumming, while
the demented vocal work delivers one of
the most asphyxiating elements with its
desperate and ripping high pitched
shrieks. The constant use of atmospheric
interludes interestingly harmonize with
the metallic elements, and even when may
diminish the whole tension of this EP at
some passages, the most of the time
sounds like a coherent and logic
accompaniment, enormously improving the
continuity of these compositions… A
remarkable aspect of this release is the
relatively short duration of the
featured tracks (the longest one doesn’t
reaches the five minutes), which makes
this EP much more accessible for those
who are into the Black and Doom Metal
but aren’t so deep into this particular
depressive tendency. The whole
production is quite remarkable as well;
the whole music sound clear and
balanced, which allows the listener to
get completely immerse into the whole
grim and tragic proposal of this band
during the more than twenty minutes this
work lasts… “Dementia Praecox” is a
solid debut, Acrosome shows here a very
interesting proposal, that even when is
not 100% original, will easily thrill
not only those into the Depressive Black
Metal trend, but also those into the
Ambient, Black and Doom Metal as well…
